Surprise baby shower parade leaves Sheidow Park mum-to-be speechless

After suffering the heartbreak of losing two babies during separate pregnancies, Sophia Marquis was counting down the days until her baby shower, when she could share her excitement with family and friends.
But at 31 weeks pregnant, Mrs Marquis, of Sheidow Park, was forced to cancel the event after social distancing rules were introduced amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“This time around, this is the furthest I’ve been (in a pregnancy) so I thought ‘Yay, we’re going to have a baby shower and everything is going to work out’, but then coronavirus hit and we had to cancel,” Mrs Marquis, 33, says.
“I was really disappointed and I think because of what we had been through previously it was so exciting to get to this stage and have a baby shower planned.”
Wanting to surprise her good friend, Natasha Weyer planned a last-minute surprise baby shower parade with the help of Mrs Marquis’s husband, David.
“I didn’t know anything,” Mrs Marquis says.
“My husband suggested we walk to the park with the dog and do something cute as a little family.
“I did ask him if I needed to dress up and he said no so I was in my trackies, no makeup, very casual and next thing I know everyone was there.”
More than 10 cars loaded with their family and friends paraded past the couple and their furbaby, English bulldog Sage, as they sat in Southbank Boulevard Reserve.
Mrs Marquis was stunned as the cars decorated in balloons and streamers drove past, tooting their horns.
