A father who allegedly crashed his car into a motorcyclist before fleeing the scene and failing to render any assistance has been granted home detention bail.

Paul Logan, 55, of Murray Bridge East, faced the Murray Bridge Magistrate Court on Tuesday, November 15 and was granted home detention to a Murray Bridge address.

The prosecution did not oppose home detention bail.

Mr Logan faces six charges – causing serious harm by dangerous driving, leaving the accident scene after causing harm, driving with excess blood alcohol, driving under disqualification or suspension, and two charges of driving without due care.

The prosecution allege Mr Logan was the driver of a white Hyundai which committed a U-turn, causing the alleged victim to collide with the rear passenger corner of the defendant’s vehicle on Sunday, November 6.

The incident left a man with a broken pelvis and a collapsed lung lying on the road, the court previously heard.

The court previously heard Mr Logan was arrested on Sunday, November 6, when he presented to the Murray Bridge Police Station at 9pm - five hours after witnesses saw the car collide with a motorbike - where the defendant returned a positive result for exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol with a rating of 0.232.

The prosecution sought a charge determination date for five months time as it worked to get a toxicology and doctors report.

Magistrate Jayne Basheer said granted the five months.

“The reason it takes so long, Mr Logan, is these are serious charges that ultimately will be dealt with in the district court, not this court” she said.

The matter will return to court on April 11, 2023.
