A teen charged after a terrifying alleged attempted carjacking has appeared in court on alleged firearms offences.

A 19-year-old Victorin man appeared via video link before the Mount Gambier Magistrate’s Court on Monday for a bail hearing.

The teenager was charged with firearms offences, assault and stating false personal details after he accompanied two teenage boys aged 17 and 15 aged 17 and 15 who were arrested when a driver was held up at gunpoint at Alberton.

Police say around 10pm that evening, a 21-year-old man was in his vehicle at a car wash on Port Road, Alberton, when he was approached by three males.

One allegedly produced a firearm, prompting the man to quickly drive off and call triple-0. Police say the victim “was shaken, but not physically injured during the incident”.

Following investigations, police attended a Queenstown address on Sunday evening where a search of the premises allegedly uncovered a silver handgun, which was seized by officers.

Police intercepted three teenagers aboard an interstate bus to Victoria at Bordertown in the state’s South-East in the early hours of July 29.

A 17-year-old Queenstown boy and a 15-year-old Kilburn boy were both arrested alongside the 19-year-old - for matters unrelated to the Alberton incident - and refused police bail, scheduled to appear at Youth Court.

Police say investigations into the Alberton incident are continuing.

During the teenager’s bail hearing in Mount Gambier Magistrates Court, it heard he would be remanded in custody due to him currently having no place to serve home detention.

His next appearance is in September on unrelated charges. He will appear again regarding the Port Adelaide matter in January.

Magistrate Koula Kossiavelos said the Mount Gambier Court would continue to preside over the matter despite the alleged crime being committed in Port Adelaide’s jurisdiction.
