Robe Council has released a master plan for the Robe Sport & Recreation Grounds that would see a complete overhaul of the complex’s currently outdated facilities.
The plan driven by the Robe Sport and Recreation Association - has been put out for community consultation.
Under the plan, the ground’s football/cricket oval will increase in size to 125 by 165m and receive new lighting. The netball and tennis courts will be resurfaced and get new lighting, new football amenities will be constructed and also a function area and a new indoor centre that will house multiple courts and the canteen.
A long section of covered verandah will connect the new football amenities and oval; providing a sheltered space for spectators to watch from - a luxury not currently available at the ground.
The proposed upgrade design featured in the master plan was the second of two final concepts developed utilising feedback gathered through the draft consultation phase.
Both concepts were presented to key stakeholders and user groups during which option two was identified as the preferred design.
Initially, a more “ambitious”, $57m upgrade was considered but that plan was refined to a smaller scale - expected to cost closer to $10m.
Estimated costing for stage 1 of this project is set now at $2,000,000.
Following community consultation, the plan will then progress to its next stage which will include architects, builders and planning approval.
The goal of the upgrade is to see the Robe Sport & Recreation Facility become a flexible, multi-use sporting hub that provides a range of modern shared and accessible sporting services for existing and future user groups, clubs and the broader community.
