A woman has been arrested twice in less than 12 hours after she allegedly broke into a bowls club before escaping custody from a hospital.
The 31-year-old Mount Gambier woman was first arrested just after 5am on Friday after she was caught fleeing from a break-in at Mount Gambier Bowls Club.
She was then taken to the Mount Gambier Hospital with minor injuries where she made a run for it with police searching the area.
The woman was located in Vansittart Park and arrested for a second time without incident at around 3.40pm.
Police are actively searching for the missing woman with a number officers searching a property at 46 Wireless Rd West before her second arrest.
A neighbour was watching the search unfold from his front porch and said multiple police officers had been at the property since at least 9am.
“They said there was someone running through the property but … there’s something more going on,” Dave said.
“They were obviously looking for somebody.”
Dave, who did not want to be identified for his safety, said crime was a common occurrence in the neighbourhood but the large property had never been targeted before.
Police were altered to the incident when the alarms at the Commercial Street West property went off and discovered two glass doors were smashed to gain entry to the premises.
She is expected to be charged with a number of offences later today including serious criminal trespass, property damage, theft and escaping lawful custody.
