Man charged with attempted murder after Mount Gambier stabbing

Police have laid an attempted murder charge on Mount Gambier man Mark Walters, while the victim of his alleged stabbing attack remains fighting for life in an Adelaide hospital.

A man has faced court charged with attempted murder and aggravated causing serious harm after stabbing another man.

Mark John Walters, 46, appeared at the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court this afternoon via video link from custody. He did not apply for bail.

Police and paramedics were called to a group of units at the corner of Queens Ave and Wehl St North just before 5pm on Saturday, January 2, where the two men, who are believed to be known to each other, had an altercation.

The accused was arrested at the scene while the victim sustained a stab wound to his neck and abdomen and was rushed to Mount Gambier Hospital before being flown to Adelaide where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Walters will return to court on June 21.
