No doubt about it – Melissa Bode has made the cut! After more than 1600 of you cast your votes, Melissa is officially South Australia’s best hairdresser, taking out the top spot in Messenger’s latest “best of” poll.
And that’s why we asked Melissa, who owns Hyde Park eco-salon Bode Hair Lounge, to show off her skills on none other than The Advertiser’s deputy head of vision Simon Cross.
With shoulder-length hair and a full-on beard, Simon’s transformation wasn’t for a faint-hearted hairdresser.
It’s been five years since Simon’s had a haircut this drastic and he normally has a trim just once a year.
But Melissa was up for the challenge, even if it meant dealing with a few dreadlocks.
“I thought it was going to be a pretty big job but I had a vision of what I wanted to do,” Melissa said.
“I wanted to make him look nice and fresh and I think it’s trendy and goes well with his overall look.”
While opportunities to be in charge of such a dramatic transformation don’t come around often, Melissa said they never make her tear her hair out.
“They only happen every now and then when people come in and decide they’re ready to completely change their look and I really enjoy doing it for them,” she said.
After just one hour in Melissa’s chair, Simon was almost unrecognisable.
“I was pretty shocked, I don’t recall it ever being this short but I’m really happy with it,” Simon said.
