LucidLines’ Caitlin Thomas named South Australia’s top tattooist

South Australia’s best tattoo artist has been crowned and she’s helping people overcome body insecurities with her botanical design. See the top five as voted by you.

They say less is more, which is exactly what Lucid Lines’ Caitlin Thomas, 31, pieces are.

Ms Thomas – who operates out of her Dulwich studio LucidLines – was voted SA’s best tattooist in the latest Messenger poll.

Tattooing all over the world for more than a decade now, Ms Thomas said her career started because she was in the right place the right time.

“I was wood burning into drum kits at the time and people kept saying ‘you should get into tattooing, it’s not that much different’,” she said.

“I was hesitant because I didn’t really think it was my scene.

“I saw so many creative people getting into the industry and I thought I might as well give it a go.”

Ten years on and Ms Thomas still feels the pressure of making her clients visions a reality, working as her own boss in her Dulwich studio combining nature and illustration to create unique botanical designs.

“The most rewarding tattoo is if I can help somebody move past something,” she said.

“If I’m the first person that’s seen a part of their body for a long time because they don’t feel comfortable around anybody or if I’ve been able to help them feel more confident about something they’ve previously been insecure about.”

Dylan Glacken from Inkinskin Tattoo and Aleisha Gannon of Ink Haus Creative Studios who took out the top honour in 2020, rounded out the top three.
