From a massive field of nominees and hundreds of votes, Hills based ‘caker’ and former police officer Teresa Langmead has taken the win for SA’s best cake maker.
It was a tight race, but Ms Langmead’s business, She Baked, drew eight per cent of the vote in our latest competition.
The mother-of-two said her passion for baking began as a child and continued throughout her career in the police, rewarding her co-workers with delicious treats where she could.
“It sounds corny but baking has just been one of those things I have always loved,” she said.
“I was a police officer for 20 years and I would end up taking my products into work for the guys to sample and see what they thought.
“From there family and friends starting requesting birthday cakes, baby showers, wedding cakes and I thought this could be something else I could do.”
To help keep up with the demand, Ms Langmead’s husband had just finished building a commercial kitchen when the 2019 Cuddlee Creek bushfire which spanned over 127km.
“He literally only just finished but we lost absolutely everything.
“I was due to bake a wedding cake eight days later and she was very understanding of the situation.
“I knew she would never get some to bake her a cake only being eight days out, pulled my head in, it was boiling hot and I was pretty emotional but I got it done and it’s my favourite cake until this day.”
