Three Adelaide school will receive a share in the $1.3bn Education Capital Works Program as they look to revamp ageing accommodation and embrace outdoor learning areas.

“The classrooms will meet the most up-to-date standards in an education facility in terms of the natural light coming through, the sound reverberation so there is no echo in the room,” Glenelg principal Shane Misso said. “It’s going to be very dynamic.”

Glenelg Primary will end up with a split, new facility along the eastern boundary of the grounds involving four, modern-designed classrooms as well as addition teacher preparation rooms and breakout facilities.

“We’ll have extensive covered areas where our students will be able to have that indoor-outdoor learning environment,” Mr Misso said.

“It will really link our current entrance and just make it all the more appealing and an obvious flow for people visiting our office.”

“We have really tried to touch upon every part in the school so every student will benefit from a new and improved learning space.”

Mr Misso said he was confident students would be in the new spaces by March 2022.

“Rather than building the whole lot onsite, some will be built off-site but will arrive like a Lego set, which will hopefully half the build time,” Mr Misso explained.

“For me this is highly exciting, I love the innovation and rethinking what a classroom is.”
