The family of a motorcyclist killed in a horror crash has spoken out after the man who allegedly hit him gave an emotional interview about the incident.

The alleged driver of the car, 29-year-old Christopher Bennett of Elizabeth Park, spoke to the media after his first court appearance on Monday.

“To the family of the man that passed away last night, sorry does not even begin … does … sorry does not mean anything in comparison to how you guys feel right now,” he said at Elizabeth Magistrates Court.

“I wish there was something more that I could do for him, I truly do.”

On Tuesday, Brad’s best mate Scott Frankham told 7News that losing him felt like “robbery”.

“It feels like robbery for all of us,” he said.

Brad’s sister in law, Catherine Van Nunen, said they were “angry with the situation”.

“I’m angry at the situation that a 45-year-old is gone and now instead of us, you know, enjoying our lives and thinking about all the great things we’re going to achieve, I’m now thinking about how my sister’s going to be,” she said.

Mr Bennett, who started sobbing at times, said he was going to get tobacco when the crash happened.

“There was – driving disqualified or not, this poor man passed away in this incident not because I was driving disqualified,” he said.

“It is not me that is suffering, it is the family of this man that’s passed.”

Mr Bennett said his licence disqualifications had been when he was “young and dumb”.

“Eleven times I’ve lost my licence in the past, but all for stupid things. For being young and dumb,” he said.
