After more than 50 years, the Tusmore Park wading pool will undergo a major refurbishment.

Plans for the Stirling St pool’s refurbishment have been listed for public notification on the State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP).

Burnside Council chief executive Chris Cowley said the popular pool’s infrastructure was ageing and due for replacement.

“This project represents an exciting redevelopment of a much loved Burnside facility, which will provide fun and recreation for families for many years to come,” he said.

“A development application for the new design has been lodged, and a tender for construction is currently underway.

“All things going well, council is hoping to commence construction early in the 2021/22 financial year.”

Plans for the refurbishment include a new wading pool similar to the current pool but with a new creek-style section and floral inspired waterplay equipment.

It would also include fencing which could be removed during the winter season when the pool is not in use.

An extended pool equipment and storage shed and tiered seating would also be built at the pool.

Last year, Burnside Council found the pool had reached “the end of its useful life” and needed to be fully replaced or removed.

During community consultation, more than 90 per cent of locals surveyed backed a revamp of the pool included upgraded and new facilities.

Plans for the pool refurbishment can be viewed on the SCAP website until June 9.
