Residents complain about noise from Burnside’s Tree House

Burnside Council will investigate neighbour complaints that noise from a luxury, five-bedroom “party house” — used to host hen’s nights and even an erotic magazine shoot — is destroying an otherwise peaceful street.

Burnside Council will investigate complaints that noise from a luxury, five-bedroom “party house” — used to host hen’s shows and even an erotic magazine shoot — is destroying an otherwise peaceful street.

Fourteen Burnside residents have signed a petition — tabled at last night’s council meeting — calling for action to curb noise from a house on Saint Albans Drive.

The property’s Facebook page shows a music video clip for singer Walexy was filmed there in 2017 and a Penthouse model shoot was also held in July of the same year.

The home — which is advertised for rent on websites including Airbnb and Stayz — has also been regularly used for 21st and 40th birthday parties, as well as hen’s shows.

Lead petitioner Susan De Leo claimed neighbours were at their “wits’ end” with noise coming from the property at all hours of the night.

“(We are) constantly told by (Burnside) council that it can’t do anything,” Mrs De Leo said.

St Albans Drive resident and father-of-two James Parton told the Eastern Courier Messenger his family “repeatedly and consistently had our right to live in a peaceful and residential neighbourhood compromised”.

He had made several complaints to the council and police about “loud music and profane language”, and St Albans Drive was regularly “choked” with parked cars.

“My own mental health is being impacted by this ongoing barrage,” Mr Parton said.

I have had to confront guests … urinating in my front garden.

“It is clear (the owner) is running the property as a commercial enterprise at the expense of her neighbours and the right to a peaceful existence.”

The 700sq m property has a pool, games room, home theatre, bar, air hockey table and “glorious balcony views”, according to accommodation website Stayz.

It also boasts of good relations with its neighbours.

“Our neighbours are not at all snobby, in fact quite the opposite,” the website reads.

“They are welcoming and friendly.”

Tree House spokeswoman Sandra Palmos-Gregoriou said the five-star, luxury home had operated for four years without complaints, until this year.

She said she completed regular checks at the property to monitor noise issues.

“We go past hourly from 8pm to check on guests and the most there has ever been is three or four people out the front balcony talking and having a smoke,” Mrs Palmos-Gregoriou said.

“No music. No noise. It’s so frustrating having to reply to these allegations.”

She said the home’s guests were “perfectly respectful and lovely”.

“I just wish (the) council would tell them (the neighbours) once and for all to stop.

“It’s beyond a joke.”

A Burnside Council spokeswoman said it would liaise with police, the property’s owners and “other agencies as appropriate”, but its jurisdiction was “limited”.

She said there was no requirement to apply for permission to run the home as a rental property.

An SA Police spokesman said noise issues were a council matter.
