Meat Your Needs: Clapham butcher named best in the east

Just nine months after opening its doors, an eastern suburbs butcher has been named the best in the region. See who made the top five.

Just nine months after opening its doors, a Clapham butcher has been named the best in Adelaide’s east.

Meat Your Needs received more than 46 per cent of votes in our Delicious Local poll in partnership with celebrity chef Matt Preston.

Part owner Kane Laundy said it was the combination of knowledge from himself and other owners Adriano Andrade and Kyle Leffers that set their shop apart from the competition.

“Kyle owns Rub & Grub BBQ Accessories and rubs … has his own barbecue team that competes in the circuit in Australia and they’ve been over to America,” Mr Laundy said.

”Adriano is Brazilian so has a lot of Brazilian contacts and we do a lot of Brazilian cuts of meats and groceries.

“Myself I’ve been in the game and managing stores for 22 years so the combination of all three of us is what works.”

The small shop packs a lot more than just meat into its Springbank Road store.

With 30 different imported rubs as well as local and Australian rubs, gourmet sauces, charcoal and even flavoured woods the butcher has become a one-stop shop for its loyal customers.

“We have our every day meats to help Mrs Jones out with her half kilo of mince but then we’ve got platinum pieces of brisket as well,” Mr Laundy said.

“During COVID with people not able to go out to eat they had to experiment with different cooking methods themselves and that really helped us because we had things that you can get at a niche restaurant and we’ve got a rub to suit and a sauce.

“You can come in here grab a nice piece of meat, a rub, a sauce to go with it, your charcoal and your flavoured wood and you’re done.”

Goodwood Quality Meats was placed second in the list with Norwood’s Bos Taurus Butchery taking third.
