A Goodwood grandmother who defaced 28 Unley Council road signs in protest against roadworks has admitted to the charges in court.
Mary Jean Kolusniewski, 74, appeared in Adelaide Magistrates Court for the first time on Wednesday to plead guilty to multiple charges of property damage.
The retired teacher has previously told the press she painted 28 signs with “WTF!” in red paint to protest the installation of speed bumps on Weller Street in Goodwood.
When the obscene slogans were scrubbed off, she painted the reflective white arrow signs with green paint – and again repainted them after that lot of paint was also removed.
Magistrate Simon Smart told the court that Kolusniewski vandalised the signs on July 8, July 25, July 27, August 9 and August 11.
Under her bail agreement, she is not allowed to go into Weller Street.
Kolusniewski’s lawyer, Con O’Neil, told the court he would make submissions at a later date.
It is understood Kolusniewski will challenge whether the damage done was worth $10,000, as is alleged by police.
She has previously said she took issue with “huge white reflective arrows” and “concrete garbage” that was installed with new speed bumps in Weller St.
She said she vandalised the signs in broad daylight because she wanted to be “dobbed in” to make a public point and get “some action and get some change”.
That came to fruition when she was filmed in the act by former Seven journalist and newsreader Jess Adamson.
Kolusniewski will face court again in January.
