An Australia Post contractor has not been charged after it was alleged he gained access to the home of an elderly Netherby woman.

The family claims the delivery contractor gained entry to the 72-year-old woman’s home on February 14 by asking for a glass of water.

They said he then made inappropriate comments.

“We reported the incident to Australia Post after being made aware of the complaint,” the alleged victim’s son told The Messenger.

“The individual returned to her home this morning (on February 15) and repeatedly rang the intercom, five to six times, trying to speak to my mother.

“Despite being told to leave, he wouldn’t.”

South Australia Police have confirmed they have spoken to the alleged victim and, following a preliminary investigation, have not determined an offence has occurred at this time.

“Should an offence be identified, the matter will be fully investigated,” said the police spokesman.

Australia Post confirmed it reprimanded the staff member as a result of the allegations.

“Australia Post takes these matters very seriously,” a company spokesman said.

“We have spoken with the employee in question and have suspended him from his duties immediately.

“We will work with the police to assist with the investigation.”

The son said his family was stonewalled after raising the issue with South Australia Police.

“I reported the incident to Sturt Police Station (on Monday), before the individual returned, and they refused to take any details of the incident,” the son said.

“This is despite me having CCTV footage.”

“They didn’t even ask if she was okay.

“When we needed to call police again (on Tuesday) morning, we were left to make a fresh report on the police assistance line.”
