Concept designs have been released for a new and inclusive ice cream themed playground soon to be built at Largs Bay.
The new playground is being constructed as part of the Changing Places facility – a new public toilet block with change table and hoist for people with a disability – on the foreshore reserve.
The playground has been designed to focus on inclusive equipment for people of different ages and abilities.
Port Adelaide Enfield mayor Claire Boan said inclusivity was at the forefront with the new playground’s concept.
“Everybody deserves the right to play and this is something that was at the heart of the design,” she said.
“There are lots of inclusive elements across the design, including physical equipment that can be used by wheelchairs, but also sensory play equipment and other unique features.”
The playground will be complete with various dessert-themed equipment including a climbable soft serve ice cream cup, a banana split themed inclusive seesaw and an informative sensory popsicle sculpture.
There will also be a picnic setting, inclusive accessible trampolines and a wheelchair accessible carousel for everyone to enjoy.
Ms Boan said the unique theme was decided on as a result of community feedback received during consultation and input from the design team and contractor.
“Because the playground is right next to the ice cream kiosk and the beach, we wanted to go with something that fitted the vibe of the location,” she said.
“We wanted to create a unique playground that people will come from far away to experience as part of a day out in Largs Bay.”
Construction on the playground is planned to start in mid 2024.
