The $42 million Oval Hotel will bring tourism dollars into the state as it recovers from the economic fallout of COVID-19, Premier Steven Marshall says.
Mr Marshall said the hotel, expected to open on September 25, would help sell Adelaide to the world.
The 133-room hotel is now 75 per cent complete and the interior fit out is underway.
The hotel’s unique reception pod, which spans the air above the Adelaide Oval’s East Gate to connect the Cathedral and River wings, is also nearing completion.
Mr Marshall said the “world class” hotel would be highly sought after by locals and those abroad.
“It could not have come at a better time as South Australia is releasing some of restrictions we have had in COVID-19,” Mr Marshall said.
“Ultimately people right around the world will be coming to the iconic Adelaide Oval and staying here right on site.”
Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority chair Kevin Scarce said the construction and hotel teams had created “something truly exceptional”.
He said the hotel – which also overlooks the parklands – added another revenue stream to help maintain the oval.
“Some people will come for the views, some people will come for the sport … but I just hope we get lots of enthusiastic people to come look at the oval,” Mr Scarce said.
The five-storey hotel is built on two elevated pods that follow the curves of the stadium’s eastern facade and does not encroach on the parklands or the plaza.
It has created 800 construction jobs and 100 ongoing jobs.
Oval Hotel general manager Bodelle Francis looked forward to welcoming guests to the venue to help stimulate the economy post COVID-19.
“South Australia has led the way in its health response, and we’d love to lead the way with our tourism response,” Ms Francis said.
“Oval Hotel is, at its heart, a celebration of South Australia and all it has to offer – from world-class food and wine to stunning landscapes, unique experiences and great people.”
The hotel today announced an introductory offer as part of SA Tourism’s Welcome Back campaign.
Presented in partnership with The Advertiser, the $199 package includes one night’s accommodation in a Parkland King Room, welcome drinks at the all new Bespoke Wine Bar & Kitchen, 10 per cent discount on food and drink and an exclusive gift.
The offer is available until Tuesday, August 25, and is valid for stays between October 1 and January 31, 2021.
