Fight at Ingle Farm v Edwardstown football match

A junior team’s soccer coach has been reported by police and suspended by Football SA after allegedly punching a linesman in the face at a weekend soccer game.

The altercation allegedly broke out at Ellis Park, in the Western Parklands about 10.30am on Sunday in the under-15s girls’ game between the Adelaide Comets and White City Football Club.

Police say the victim, a volunteer linesperson from the Comets, was involved in an altercation with the coach of White City.

A statement from Football SA said the coach was immediately suspended, meaning he would not be able to participate or attend any football club activity sanctioned by Football SA.

The matter will be referred to a disciplinary committee hearing.

Michael Carter, Football SA chief executive officer said he was appalled to hear of the alleged incident.

“We don’t stand for this type of behaviour and it’s utterly unacceptable,” Mr Carter said.

“We will be dealing with this through our regular disciplinary process.”

The victim went to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment of facial injuries.

Following investigations by police, a Woodville West man, 48, was reported for assault.

He will appear in court at a later date.

Football SA, the Adelaide Comets, and White City have been contacted for comment.

Anyone who witnessed the incident should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

It follows an incident in May, after a teenage umpire was allegedly assaulted at a SANFL juniors football match at Edwardstown.

Both football clubs involved in the match, Ingle Farm and Edwardstown, denied any involvement in the brawl.
