Rundle Mall buskers’ catchy election campaign tune goes viral

A GROUP of buskers has broken out in song in support of a mayoral candidate — the catchy tune is sure to get some feet tapping and votes coming in. WATCH THE VIDEO

THE election has begun in style with these buskers throwing their support behind former Rundle Mall general Manager Martin Haese.

This catchy little tune has began to pop up on social media this week with lead singer Peter McLaughlin saying he and his Rundle Mall busker mates Greg Wain (on guitar), Piano Pete (bongo), his son Theo (On Ukulele) and Nina Waves (on Ukulele) did it to show support for Mr Haese’s bid to become Adelaide’s next Lord Mayor.

“It was a bit of fun to write him a campaign song,” McLaughlin says.

“Martin is a big supporter of buskers in the Mall and we wanted to show our support to him.

“It’s old school, a campaign song, but it works.”

Mr Haese said he was sent the video recently.

“I think busking is synonymous with the Mall and it was a nice surprise to see their support.

“I’m a bit of a muso and this is great fun”

So will he be adopting it as his official campaign song?

“Well, I don’t have one, so yes I will!”

Mr Haese is up against Stephen Yarwood, Mark Hamilton, Michael Henningson and Kelly Henderson in the race for Lord Mayor.

You can catch McLaughlin tonight at Casa Blah Blah (Friday, September 19).
