Rundle Mall alleged assault leaves man bloodied, in hospital

Ambulance officers have taken a man to hospital after police and paramedics were called to the retail hotspot on Thursday afternoon.

A man has been arrested after an alleged assault in Adelaide’s CBD.

Shoppers and workers in Rundle Mall have rushed to the aid of a man who is alleged to have been attacked in the popular retail precinct this afternoon.

Within about seven minutes of the incident, police and emergency services arrived at the scene just after 1.10pm to assist the victim.

He was seen with a bloodied face before SA Ambulance officers took him to hospital, with minor injuries.

Patrols were able to find the man believed to be responsible for the assault.

Police subsequently located a 23-year-old man was charged with assault cause harm. He did not apply for police bail and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday, September 19.

Adelaide City councillor Henry Davis, who happened to be in the vicinity when the assault occurred, said he helped “render first aid”, to the victim.

“I saw a man sitting on the floor surrounded by a few people,” Cr Davis said.

“I went over to check if he was okay, and saw that he had blood on his face.”

Cr Davis said the witnesses quickly jumped into action and were able to obtain a first aid kit to help the victim before emergency services arrived.

“Police arrived quite quickly (and the) ambulance was there in about seven minutes.”

Cr Davis said another witnesses had seen the suspect before fled the scene, and was able to provide a description to police.

“I told him to write down everything and give it to the police,” he said. “Police took those details and looked for the suspect.”

Following the incident, Cr Davis said there were “a number of versions” detailing the circumstances that led up to the alleged assault - that did not involve a weapon.

“The man was in shock and didn’t really know what happened,” Cr Davis said.

“It was great to see how people responded to the event and helped.”
