Open day at the Old Royal Adelaide Hospital, as it gets a new name
NO longer called the old RAH, much of the former hospital site doesn’t even exist — and you can watch more demolition at an open day on Wednesday while you learn about the future of the site as an innovation hub.
IT has been called the old RAH, but Renewal SA is hoping its new name for the former hospital site will be similarly embraced.
Ahead of Wednesday’s open day on the 7ha site, Renewal SA chief executive John Hanlon said the goal was to label the future creation and innovation “neighbourhood” as Lot Fourteen.
“With a clear vision for the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site it is now time to focus on the future, by calling this neighbourhood by its new name referencing its location — Lot Fourteen,” he said.
“We have a new name for our Creation and Innovation Neighbourhood, it is Lot Fourteen, linked to Colonel Light’s grid vision for the City of Adelaide and the Surveyor General allocating allotment 14 as the majority of the site fronting the cultural boulevard on North Terrace.
“It is located on one of the world’s best main streets, so the focus on the address was important.”
At the open day from 8am to 5pm, the public, entrepreneurs, business leaders and start-ups can see how the demolition of the historic site is progressing as part of a free demolition tour.
There will be local pop-up bars and food offerings and, as part of entrepreneurs week, supported by The Advertiser, entrepreneurs will be available.
Visitors can experience the demolition live in action or choose to use the virtual window to watch the buildings on the east of the site come down.
The Open Day will run from 8am to 5pm.
