ADELAIDE’S newest cinema will open in Prospect tomorrow with free screenings for thousands of schoolchildren and $5 tickets for everyone else until next Wednesday.
About 12,000 people are expected to flock to the new 14-screen Palace Nova Prospect Cinema on Prospect Rd in its first week, the company’s marketing and publicity manager, Lisa Stewart, says.
The operators have offered free admission to 3000 local schoolchildren.
“The complex is an exciting new entertainment destination for Prospect Rd, bringing cinemagoers a boutique, modern experience while honouring the historic art deco style of Prospect,” Mrs Stewart says.
“The typical cinema experience is changing but one thing that remains constant is people’s appetite for quality films and a chance to escape to another time or place for a few hours.”
But Prospect Council parking inspectors will be out in force, with shifts extended to 10pm to catch illegal parkers.
Existing two-hour restrictions on Rose St, just north of the cinema, will remain in place.

Council staff will prepare a report in June on the cinema’s effect cinema on parking.
The cinema complex has 53 carparks on-site, as well as 18 across the road, out of the 101 recommended in a traffic impact statement.
Tickets for selected films will be $13 over summer.
Andre and Lucy, both 11, had a sneak peek at the cinema last week.
“I think it looks great because it’s really modern and new,” Lucy says.
