50SIXONE will employ 35 people at its new Prospect dessert restaurant, which will open in the new Palace Nova cinema complex on Saturday, November 25.
Four other restaurants have also committed to leases in the $20 million Prospect Rd building ahead of the cinema opening on December 7.
50SIXONE will give away milkshakes from 9am to 10pm on its opening day.
Venue co-owner Simon Flocco said he expected the upcoming launch to be a “sweet success” with the openings of 50SIXONE’s Hyde Park and Mt Barker stores attracting a social media frenzy.
“Considering the success of our Mt Barker opening day (in April), we assume the crowd will be even larger at the Prospect launch due the new store’s more central location,” Mr Flocco said.
Staff are being sought for 35 positions.
Other restaurants to open in the Maras Group complex include New Nordic, Anchovy Bandit, Jiro Sushi Train and Soonta.
New Nordic is owned by brothers Mattis and Lukas Vanzati and parents Louise and Bo Matschke, who also run Swedish Tarts, Malobo and Hermanos Cubanos, which are all in Henley Beach.
They will employ about 30 staff at the Scandinavian-style restaurant.
“This is a great opportunity – we always think pretty far ahead,” Mattis Vanzati said.
“It’s about our confidence in that area – that area of Prospect Rd has a lot to offer and it will continue developing in the future.”
Anchovy Bandit is owned by Oliver Brown, who also runs the NOLA small bar in the city.
Prospect Council and the Maras Group are spending $300,000 on streetscape improvements to Rose St, at the northern end of the cinema, including on street art, extended kerbs and landscaping.
Maras Group managing director Steve Maras said he was “rapt” to see all the ground floor tenancies filled.
“We’ve been very deliberate in making sure we get a tenant mix that is complementary and fresh and new and I think we’ve gone a long way to achieving that,” Mr Maras said.
