Joe Mignone has made it his aim to lift his neighbours’ spirits, quite literally, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Armed with a drone, ribbon and container, Mr Mignone airlifted two glasses of Johnny Walker Gold Label whisky to his neighbours. Mr Mignone, of Norwood, says his idea is an innovative way to share a drink with his neighbours while maintaining the Federal Government’s social distancing and gathering rules.
He says, most importantly, it is just one of the many ideas that have helped him remain positive while staying at home.
“You’ve got to have some fun in times like these otherwise we will all be moping around and we can’t have that,” he says. “All the neighbours usually catch up and … so I called my neighbours and said ‘get outside, I want you to star in my video and I am sending over a drink’. I must say, there was no rehearsal – we pulled it off in one shot.”
Mr Mignone, who owns an entertainment business, posted the video on his Facebook page and YouTube, receiving much praise for making a dull time that little bit brighter.
His ambition to make people smile during the crisis began when he set up his home office desk in his swimming pool as a “shout out” to those working remotely.
While the weather is likely to prevent him from sending booze aloft again, he plans on finding more innovative ways to cheer up his friends as they self-isolate during the coronavirus crisis.
“I have some more ideas in mind … but I am not going to divulge too much yet,” he said.
“I am in the entertainment business, so I have to entertain people … and keep positive attitudes going.”
Like Mr Mignone, locals are banding together to support each other during the outbreak, which includes putting teddy bears in windows to make children smile.
