Carparking in the city is now cleaner and cheaper as part of Adelaide City Council’s support package to reduce the economic impacts of COVID-19.
The council this morning announced a new “touchless” system – UPark Plus – to pay for parking across its nine UPark locations.
It will cost commuters up to $8 a day to park using the new system.
The scheme is part of the council’s $4 million response to support traders and ratepayers across the city, which includes giving traders in its buildings free rent for three months.
Adelaide Lord Mayor Sandy Verschoor said the initiative was a way to support businesses and essential services still operating in the city.
“UPark Plus will help city workers, students and visitors easily park in the city at any time, without having to worry about touching any ticket machines or repeatedly pre-booking online,” Ms Verschoor said.
“I am particularly keen to see emergency and health services workers and shift workers benefit.”

Users have to sign up for a UPark Plus card which is then linked to either a debit card or credit card for payment.
The touchless system, which users have to sign up for, was developed with ADVAM and DESIGNA Australia.
The $8 fee will be reviewed at the end of the month.
Cards can be ordered through upark.com.au/upark-plus then collected at City of Adelaide Customer Centre or sent out by post.
