Eddie Betts signs books for fans, no talk about future

As the line to get a signed copy of Eddie Betts’ Lil’ Homies series grew, so did intense speculation about his playing future.

Adelaide Crows fan favourite Eddie Betts said yesterday while other clubs had shown “interest” in him, there had been no discussions about joining a rival team.

As Betts signed copies of his Lil’ Homies children’s book series at the Royal Adelaide Show for hundreds of fans yesterday, he remained tight-lipped about his playing future.

When asked if fans could expect to see him signing books at next year’s Show, he said he was contracted to the Crows until 2020.

Betts, 32, said there had been no discussions with any sides, adding: “There has been interest, though.”

That comes despite growing speculation he will rejoin Carlton or even the Gold Coast Suns. Betts said the reception to his book series had been “fantastic” so far, with fans swarming him to have their copy signed.

“It is pretty cool seeing people come through,” Betts said.

“I think to myself I’m just a normal human being, but to them I’m their role model and I’m their idol.

“It’s very special when you see them shaking and even tearing up a bit.”

Betts said Father’s Day had been “hectic”, but was happy to see his son, Lewis, win his soccer game.

Last week, he distanced himself from reports he would leave West Lakes at the end of the season in a shock move to rejoin Carlton.

When asked to respond to the report, Betts said: “Those weren’t my words.”

A report last week claimed Betts was “desperately unhappy at Adelaide”, while Carlton was “crafting a two-year deal and mentoring role” for him.
