As punters head out to Fringe events and life gets back to a semblance of normal, SA Health has warned a rise of Covid-19 cases in the community could be expected.
South Australia recorded a sharp new spike in Covid cases on Tuesday, but a falling number of patients in hospital, as authorities consider new restrictions to ease this week.
There were 2089 new infections, the highest number since last Thursday.
A spokeswoman for SA Health said the case numbers were not surprising.
“With the return of face-to-face learning in schools, as well as people being more active in the community, it’s not surprising we have seen an slight upward trend of Covid-19 cases in South Australia, as we have also seen in some other states,” the spokeswoman said.
“While we will continue to see case numbers fluctuate, at this stage we are not seeing this reflected in our hospital admissions.
“Being out and about and coming into contact with more people can increase a person’s risk of being infected with Covid-19, and this is the time for South Australians to be to be really conscious of their Covid safe behaviours.
“When heading out in ‘Mad March’, we are strongly encouraging everyone to follow the health advice, such as wearing masks where required, maintaining 1.5 metres distance from others, staying home when sick, and getting tested at the first sign of symptoms.
“Most importantly, being fully vaccinated (three doses) against Covid-19 is the best way to protect yourself.”
