A Morphett Vale man who raped a young woman in the CBD last year, has pleaded guilty.

Cameron Hand, 51, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrate Court on Monday on one charge of engaging in sexual intercourse with a person without consent.

Hand first appeared in the Christies Beach Magistrate Court in October.

At the time, the court heard Hand and the victim were unknown to each other at the time of the offending.

The court heard during the alleged attack, the woman was able to remove a baseball cap allegedly belonging to Mr Hand before providing it to police.

“Police have acquired CCTV footage of the accused wearing the baseball cap along with his bicycle … The attack itself is also captured by CCTV from the TAFE,” said the prosecutor.

“The cap was sent to forensic services for analysis which has come back with the accused DNA as a major contributor to that.”

The court also heard the handlebars off of Mr Hand’s bike were seized and also forensically analysed.

“The victim made a statement along with a taxi driver who arrived shortly after the incident,” said the prosecutor.

“His clothing was also identified which are yet to be located as investigators believe he changed clothes and left them somewhere.”

Hand will return to court for sentencing later this year.
