ADELAIDE Oval has revealed its new lighting and sound display that is set to wow crowds when it is debuted at the Ashes next month.
The $9 million project to enhance the experience for patrons is the largest and most expensive upgrade to the oval since its redevelopment.
Attendees to the day-night Ashes Test Match will be treated to a three-minute light and sound feature.
Stadium Management Authority chief executive Andrew Daniels said the Ashes was a fantastic opportunity to showcase its new capabilities to a global audience.
“Adelaide Oval is recognised as one of the world’s leading stadiums and the SMA is committed to solidifying our reputation as a global innovator through ongoing investment in our facilities,” he said.
The technical upgrade involved the installation of 220 LED sports lights along the edge of the eastern and western stands, as well as more than 300 LED architectural lights, new LED ribbon boards and infrastructure — that will allow for social media posts and live polling to be displayed on game-day.
The new lighting is expected to use about 35 per cent less energy than the previous lighting.
