Improved playing fields and upgraded social and training spaces are part of a $19.5 million plan to make Prospect Oval a top venue for cricket and Australian rules football.
Prospect Council last week released a venue improvement plan for the site, used by North Adelaide Football Club and the Prospect District Cricket Club.
The improvement plan, a vision of both clubs, would bring the venue up to SANFL and premier cricket standards.
Should the council endorse the plan, it would be “another step towards being shovel ready” for future grants and stimulus packages.
“(Venue improvements) will provide the local community with a flagship venue that encourages community and player growth and development,” the plan says.
The project would include new goalposts, pitch replacement, a pathway to get from Main North Rd to the Memorial Gardens, new cricket clubroom with unisex changerooms, and an indoor training and community centre.
Prospect Deputy Lord Mayor Matt Larwood said a plan would position the project as shovel ready. “We want to be ready to go, ” he said.
Prospect District Cricket Club president David Callan said the project would give the area an economic boost.
North Adelaide Football Club chief executive Greg Edwards said the precinct was “outdated” and needed to be revived to help both the clubs and wider community.
