A young man has died in a crash at Tarlee in the Mid North on Monday.

The car left the road and crashed into a tree on the Horrocks Highway about 3.40pm.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save the 23-year-old Norwood man, who died at the scene.

Major Crash Investigators attended the scene and closed traffic on the road while assessing the circumstances that led to the crash. The road has since reopened.

The man is the 14th life lost on South Australian roads so far this year, compared to 13 at the same time last year.

The T-junction and crash scene is within eyesight of shops on Tarlee’s main road.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Trevor Hayden, 65, heard the crash inside his work at T & R Manufacturing and said it sent a lot of dust in the air.

“The car was heading into town (south on the Horrocks Highway) and must have gone through the gravel car park and hit a tree before flipping” Mr Hayden said.

“I’ve seen a couple of prangs before, but never anything like this.”

It comes after a woman was killed in a crash at Cumberland Park last week.

The driver, a 61-year-old South Plympton woman, crashed into a stationary car on Esk Street last Wednesday.
