A major Barossa intersection at Stockwell and Penrice roads will be improved have its safety and visibility improved through a grant from the federal government’s Black Spot program.
The Barossa Council has received $616,000 for the construction of a tear drop type treatment to offset the intersection arrangement.
There have been eight crashes at the intersection with five serious injuries across the past decade.
Barossa Mayor Bim Lange said was one of a few intersections the council has been looking at recently.
“We’ve been systematically dealing with this one,” he said.
“This one had some minor modifications a few years ago … it has connectivity across the Valley floor, has a connection to the Penrice quarry.”
Works have been done to improve the Vine Vale Road intersection and Mr Lange hoped a similar change to Stockwell and Penrice roads would produce a similar outcome.
“Since we’ve addressed the Vine Vale Road one, I’m certain we’ve had no incidents there,” he said.
Works are due to be finished by the middle of 2021.
