Nuriootpa Police are warning local residents of an increase of thefts in the area, particularly vacant houses and front gardens.
Senior Sergeant Dave Walker said opportunist thieves have targeted both newly constructed houses and vacant rentals for their hot water systems.
In addition, thefts have also increased in front gardens and ornaments.
“We’ve had a number of occasions where garden ornaments like solar powered lights, statues and general ornament types have been stolen from front yards,” he said.
“It’s highly annoying to those people.
“We’ve told people if they’re building or have a vacant property, they keep an eye on properties in between tenants or have someone watching over their place, because crooks are very keen on gas hot water systems or electric heat systems.”
