Moculta luxury villas, cellar door proposed at the Barossa

A stunning $3.5m plan to nestle six villas, one with a plunge pool, and a boutique cellar door into a Barossa vineyard has been proposed. See the plans.

Oscar Seppeltsfield launched

Six luxury suites tucked into a boutique vineyard, and accompanied by an appointment-only cellar door, could see a small Barossa town become home to one of the most unique sites in the area.

The proposal would see the villas built just outside of Moculta, a town about 15 minutes from Nuriootpa and Tanunda, with one of them replete with a personal plunge pool.

Both the suites and the cellar door would be built among a small vineyard on the corner of Truro and Shannon roads.

The application, from UD Barossa and through Trice Project and Development, was estimated to come at a cost of $3.5 million.

Project manager Sonia Mercorella said the unique part of the development was how the proposed suites would be situated within the vineyards.

The cellar door was set to represent Adelaide-based Noble Road Wines and be operational from Friday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm, but would be available by appointment only.

It would double as a function centre expected to hold weddings and parties.

The large building would be fitted with a commercial kitchen, DJ booth, dance floor, bar and seating for 120 people.

The plans were unveiled amid a revolution in the availability of visitor accommodation in the Barossa.

A six-star $50m hotel, Oscar Seppeltsfield, also known as The Slug, was given the green light for construction in June.

In August last year plans for a $25m 80-room resort at Lyndoch were unveiled.

Late last month those plans were boosted with a further $4m investment attempting to add 12 luxury accommodation sites to the already grand design.

Developer and local Carl Roth told The Messenger the Barossa was screaming out for accommodation that sated a desire of visitors who wanted to stay in the area for an extended period of time.

“We want (visitors) to stay five or more nights and really see that the Barossa is about more than wine and food,” he said.
