Member for Schubert Stephan Knoll said it is brilliant to be home, two months after resigning as Transport Minister due to the State Government’s expenses saga.

Mr Knoll had admitted to three administrative errors but opted to return everything he claimed since 2018, which was more than $29,000.

Since the saga, Mr Knoll has been getting his teeth stuck into local projects, and he’s been enjoying it.

“It’s been brilliant, there’s a whole heap to do here,” he said.

“Probably the biggest priority at the moment is helping to get water up here to the Barossa.

“There’s a business case going on at the moment to help bring some of the NAIS (Northern Adelaide Irrigation Scheme) water up here, and it would help future proof the Barossa for generations to come.

“It’s been my biggest focus for the past couple of months and things have progressed really well.

“The opportunity to help provide independent water to help the Barossa grow is important.”

On a personal level, Mr Knoll said he’s been feeling “good”

“I’m feeling good, it’s great to be able to spend some more time working on local issues,” he said.

“It’s been quite enjoyable, a lot of fun.”

Member for Light, Labor’s Tony Piccolo announced last month he will run for Schubert in the next election, depending on the new electoral boundaries.

“We need to wait for the draft boundaries, Tony can run, that’s his choice,” Mr Knoll said.

“I think what we’ve been able to deliver, and Kromer’s Crossing is a fantastic example, the amount of work we’ve put into this electorate since coming to government shows the Liberal Government has delivered in a way that the former government didn’t.

“Whether it’s this, the resealing of the road between Tanunda and Nuriootpa, whether it’s upgrades to sporting facilities across the region, upgrades to schools.

“That’s because we believe from regional South Australia.

“People are very welcome to see money being spent in a region that delivers a lot for South Australia.

“The reception from the people has been really good.”
