Tanunda-based Barossa Wurst Haus & Bakery has shut its doors after a quarter of a century in the heart of the Barossa Valley.

Owners John and Chris Radzevicius have said they will be retiring and put a final goodbye on their social media pages on Sunday, with locals wishing them all the best.

The bakery was particularly popular during the Tour Down Under’s visit through Tunanda.

John and Chris would cook their famed German food open in the street.

The pair will continue to run their catering business.

“It is with heavy hearts that today the signs came down, shop fittings have been cleared out and we closed the doors on our beloved shop after 24 years,” the post said.

“To all our staff, past and present – we thank you for everything you did to make our little shop the unique place it became.

“To all our valued customers, suppliers and fellow business owners we thank you for your support and patronage, friendship and laughs over this time too.”

“To our families, what an amazing 24 year journey this was, we have been honoured to have had you all at the shop and share this with us.”

Former worker Caleb Hoklas was grateful to the business for helping him grow.

“The end of an era! Thank you for all you’ve instilled in me as a worker. Starting with your business helped me learn a lot about life, hard work and the value of loyalty. I wish you all the best in retirement. I’ll miss coming in for a chat but I’m sure we’ll catch up in the future,” he said on Facebook.
