A man who pleaded guilty to drink-driving and causing a three-car crash that killed a female passenger was arrested less than 48 hours after leaving court - for allegedly drink-driving again.
Lewis James Barton from Mount Pleasant appeared via custody at the Elizabeth Magistrates Court after being arrested at 5am on Saturday.
A police spokeswoman said members of the public reported the crash to police.
“They told police they saw a silver Holden Commodore crash into a parked vehicle on Melrose Street in Mount Pleasant and the driver leave the scene,” the spokeswoman said.
“Patrols located the driver, a 29-year-old local man, nearby and arrested him.
“He was charged with driving without due care, drink driving and breaching his probationary licence conditions.”
Barton was in court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to aggravated causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of aggravated causing harm by dangerous driving after a collision in Angaston in October last year.
About 6pm on October 17, Barton was driving a Nissan four-wheel-drive when he caused an alcohol-fuelled crash with a Holden SUV and a Holden ute on Eden Valley Road at Mount Pleasant.
The passenger of the SUV, a 59-year-old Angaston woman, suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
She died in hospital 10 days later.
Barton’s lawyer applied for home detention bail on Monday before Magistrate Brian Nitschke.
A home detention report was ordered.
Barton will remain in custody and will face court again later this month.
