A crash at a Barossa intersection which left two inured has sparked fresh calls for upgrades from frustrated locals who are sick of dealing with the aftermath.

Another collision at the notorious Greenock and Samuels Rd intersection in Nuriootpa has prompted renewed calls for upgrades from frustrated locals who have seen over 15 accidents at the intersection in five years.

At about 11.30am on Thursday, two cars collided with one rolling onto its side and one hitting a tree, the drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It comes as the Barossa, Clare and Gawler News released footage of a truck careering through the intersection in February.

United Service Station worker Rana Noman said it's the fourth accident he has had to attend in six months, pulling out a distressed woman from the rolled over vehicle before returning to work.

“One man had cuts on his face and the woman had a cut leg, I’m really not surprised to see another accident here, anytime an accident happens in Nuriootpa, people assume it must have happened here,” Mr Noman said.

Local MP Tony Piccolo said the accident highlights the danger of the intersection again.

“The accident this morning raises the question, how many more accidents have to occur before the government responds to what the community already knows,” he said.

“I'm glad no one was seriously hurt but seeing as the cars in these accidents are regularly totalled, if this is allowed to go on someone could be killed or really seriously injured.”

Mr Piccolo said a roundabout would make it clear who has right of way at the crossing.

“It’s currently so undefined, the petrol station creates so much uncertainty and the confusion leads to a lot of these accidents.”

In January transport minister Mr Corey Wingard said the Department of Transport and Infrastructure had analysed the intersection and that analysis of the road revealed a “low level of crashes which does not highlight this intersection for an upgrade based on safety grounds”.

The minister was contacted for comment on the latest spate of accidents with a spokesperson saying that after an assessment of the intersection a number of treatments are proposed.

“Treatments proposed include additional advance warning signs, duplicating and installing larger Give Way and Stop signs at the intersection and improving the visibility of the intersection with additional guideposts and delineation.”

“These works have commenced and are scheduled to be completed in the coming weeks.”

“The Department will continue to monitor the operation of the intersection following these treatments and should the need for change become evident, the appropriate action will be taken in the interest of road safety.”
