New homeware store to open in Stirling despite ongoing COVID fears

A Hills couple is refusing to let the global pandemic stop them from achieving their dreams as they open the doors to Stirling’s newest business venture.

Opening up a new business during a pandemic is a major risk but one Allison and Ephraim Hernach are willing to take.

In some ways it was because of the pandemic the Adelaide Hills couple decided to take the plunge with the opening of Kokoa Homewares on Saturday.

The shop will feature a collection of homewares, gifts and lifestyle products – some of which come from the owner’s own backyard.

“Our family loves flowers, and I’m looking forward to offering beautiful garden bouquets that have been grown at our own home,” Ms Hernach said.

“Other products in our shop are from the Adelaide Hills – or from South Australia at least – including stunning handmade pottery from Kangarilla, delicious gourmet salt, dukkah and olive oil from the McLaren Vale and leathergoods from Aldinga.

“We’re also looking forward to showcasing local artisans including a contemporary jewellery maker from Balhannah.

“That said, we also think it’s important to support those further afield who are still doing it tough, so there’s also some amazing candles for sale, made by a farming family in NSW.”

With many SA residents forced to spent more time at home, Ms Hernach said she believed the shop’s offerings would be well received.

“I feel like the idea of home is more important than it ever has been,” she said.

“We all need that sense of safety, and comfort that we get from being at home, and when people walk into our store, I want them to feel at home, too.

“I want them to feel a sense of calm and ease and peace and then be inspired to take that back to their own homes and recreate it for themselves.”

Kokoa Homewares is located at 4 Garrod Cres, Stirling.
