Acrobatics and dance studio to open in Balhannah in time for summer school holidays

Time to get moving! An Adelaide woman has lodged plans with the council to open an all-ages gymnasium and dance studio in Balhannah - the first of its kind for the region.

Hills locals will soon have a new way to get fit and active with the opening of an all ages gymnastics and dance studio in Balhannah.

Gymnastics coach Kathleen Brown has applied to the Adelaide Hills Council for a change of use of Shop 2B-D/37 Onkaparinga Road to set up an indoor recreation facility within Tenancy 2C.

The Freedom Physical and Performance Art Centre will offer programs in gymnastics, acrobatics, aerial arts and dance – all of which will be run on a recreational bases.

Ms Brown said it would be a first of its kind in the region.

She said she hoped to commence classes by the end of the year, to offer sessions during the summer holidays.

“Initially we’ll focus on kids but it will be something for all ages,” Ms Brown said.

“We were originally planning on setting this up in the northwestern suburbs but then the Hills lady who I want to do most of the circus classes has rescue horses and is vision impaired - so she can’t drive - so we decided to set it up somewhere near her locality.”

Ms Brown said the centre, which will sit next to Anytime Fitness, will have to undergo a change of use before launch date.

The site is currently registered as a trade premise and as such as no toilets or changeroom facilities.

“We’ll be leasing the site and the owner is keen for us to get in as the shop has been empty for some time,” Ms Brown said.

“In terms of when we can officially move in, we’ll have to wait for the owner to put in the toilet block but ideally I’d love to start classes by the end of the year.”

Plans are currently with the Adelaide Hills Council who are encouraging community feedback by October 19.
