Micro-weddings on the rise as couples look for ways to say ‘I do’ amid COVID-19 crisis

Couples reluctant to change their wedding date or wanting to take advantage of smaller, more affordable ceremonies necessary to meeting COVID-19 restrictions can do so at a popular Hills wedding venue.

Biggest wedding fails!

From micro-weddings to elopement packages, a popular Hills venue has rolled out new ways for couples to get hitched amid the COVID-19 restrictions.

The Manor Basket Range is helping meet increasing demand from couples opting for smaller weddings rather than postponing them by offering ceremonies tailored to their needs.

The venue’s function’s co-ordinator, Naomi Growden, says often people become emotionally attached to the date chosen for their wedding.

“The reality is that a lot of people have mapped out their life for the next few years, which includes marriage then babies, and they don’t want all of that to get pushed back,” Ms Growden says.

“So that’s really what’s been pushing smaller weddings, elopements even, as people will just have the big ceremony at a later date.”

As of Monday, there can be 20 guests at a wedding, as well as the celebrant, venue staff and any other person required to facilitate the ceremony, with no more than one person per 4sq m.

Ms Growden says job losses and growing financial worries have also made having a smaller wedding now an attractive option.

“I think people are more focused on quality over quantity these days and this crisis has put a lot of things in perspective with couples asking themselves ‘Do we need those 200 people there? Are they all important in our lives?’,” she says.

“So in a way, for some people, having a wedding now has become a good excuse to go ahead and finally get married.

“It gives them the chance to do something that’s a little bit more affordable, especially during these uncertain times.

“For us, obviously, we want the big weddings to come back, but for now, I think, micro weddings are here to stay.”

Micro-wedding specials for up to 20 people start at $4000. The deal includes a garden ceremony, canapes, a two-hour menu, a five-hour beverage package, terrace room hire for up to five hours, a sound-system and PA, bridal dressing room access and one night’s accommodation for the wedding couple.
