Coronavirus puts pause on much anticipated wedding for Adelaide Hills couple

A Hills’ couple have had a double blow this year after their Woodside property was devastated by bushfires, and now they have had to cancel their wedding. All thanks to the coronavirus.

It was meant to be the happiest day of their lives.

A day to celebrate their love in front of family and friends and an opportunity to “breathe” since the Cudlee Creek bushfires decimated most of their Woodside property.

But fate had ideas for Angus Campbell and his bride to be Danae Reed.

The Hills couple this week made the heartbreaking decision to cancel their April 4 wedding ceremony, due to the coronavirus.

“We have close family with health concerns. People we didn’t want to go ahead without, so basically we need to respect the way they feel and decided to postpone the ceremony,” Ms Reed said.

“Of course we’re disappointed. For me it means I won’t have my big white moment down the aisle, as we’ve decided to still sign the paperwork on the day and have the ceremony, our actual wedding next year.

“A day when we can hug and dance without having to worry and when the world is back in order.”

Despite their disappointment, Mr Campbell said it was important to be sensible during Australia’s COVID-19 crisis.

He said they would now use the next 12 months to focus on supporting local businesses and planning an even bigger celebration for what would have been their first wedding anniversary.

He said they also took solace in the fact their property would be close to fully recovered, making an even better and greener backdrop for a wedding.

The couple lost over 24ha of land to the December 20 blazes.

“We obviously feel for all the suppliers, particularly in the events and hospitality industries, as they will obviously be hit really hard, right down to band members,” he said.

“However, we hope that we still might be able to have them.

“For now, we will try to support as many local businesses as we can, by making sure we buy our meat from the butcher and break from the bakery, although we may have to go to Woolworths or Coles to find toilet paper.

“So we’re trying to be positive about all of this and reminding ourselves that there are people who are a lot worse than us.”
