Lobethal Bakery named best in the Adelaide Hills

A family-run business known for its German heritage, delicious bread and sweet treats has been named best bakery in the Adelaide Hills.

A Hills stalwart in all things sweet and savoury, Lobethal Bakery has been a local favourite for 47 years.

So it comes as no surprise that the business has been crowned the region’s best bakery in our Delicious Local poll, run in partnership with celebrity chef Matt Preston.

The bakery at 80 Main Street, Lobethal received 31 per cent of the total votes, with Pik a Pie Bakery in Meadows, Otto’s Bakehouse & Coffee Shop in Hahndorf, Balhannah Bakery and Rise Artisan Bakery in Nairne, rounding out the top five.

Owner Albert Trinkle said customers appreciate the bakery’s strong family focus which started with his father Helmut and extends to the youngest members of the family who help in the shop.

“I think the consistency and the quality of our food is why we’re so popular and that’s really something that needs to be there,” he said.

“For our customers, it’s more about the taste then the look but if you can get the two together, that’s a bonus.

“We also have very loyal staff and that’s crucial as well as regular customers that come to the bakery and have been able to get to know the family.”

Lobethal Bakery has outlets in Lobethal, Woodside, Stirling, Mount Barker and Balhannah.
