A month-long event aimed at supporting Hahndorf traders during COVID-19 is proving popular with locals.

Ticket sales for Hahndorf. Handmade. Handcrafted. Hand-picked have been “overwhelming” according to organisers – prompting the inclusion of additional dates for the September event.

Hahndorf Business and Tourism Association spokeswoman Mikyla Gilbert said a number of ticketed items had sold out within days of launch – including the coiled basketry workshop with Deb Twining, Comida’s paella masterclass and a personalised dog collar workshop with Hahndorf Leathersmith.

Other events selling fast include Stir the Pot – Behind the Scenes at Beerenberg, the Botanical Face and Body Workshop, Botanical Watercolour Illustration, and Chocolate @ No.5 indulgence.

“We’re overwhelmed with the response and it goes to show that people are ready to get out and about to start supporting local business the best way they can,” Ms Gilbert said.

“I think with everything in Adelaide having been postponed and lot of the country shows cancelled, having these small intimate events is allowing South Australian to get out and about to treat themselves.

“More importantly, the list event offers something for everyone, so it really is no surprise that the interest for events has been a real mixed bag.”

Presented by The Advertiser and The Adelaide Hills News, the festival starts on Tuesday September 1 and will run for the entire month.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, most of the event line up is ticketed irrelevant if the event is free or has a cost.

Co-chair of the association, Jason Duffield said he urged locals to make the most of what was on offer.

“We hope people get involved and book tickets to the many events on offer, or simply soak up the atmosphere with a leisurely walk up the main street,” he said.

“Hahndorf has evolved into a true artisan village and I think many South Aussies may not be aware of the sheer depth and range of the talent and produce associated with our region.

“We are really excited to showcase what we can do, and look forward to welcoming the people of SA to our community.”
