South Australian Country Fire Service have revealed that a fire headed for Swan Reach in the Murraylands – believed to be sparked by lightning strikes – is now under control, saying that there is no threat to life or property at this time.
Approximately 30 firefighters are currently attending the fire and will remain on scene until the risk has been reduced, but people around the area are still urged to monitor the conditions and “stay informed”.
“Decide what you will do if the situation changes,” CFS said in a statement.
“Residents near the Punyelroo area should remain aware and informed, however the fire is not currently posing a risk to the public.
“This fire will be causing smoke in the area, and members of the community are urged to take care, particularly if driving through the general area.”
CFS previously issued a Prepare to Leave warning at 3:56pm as the scrub fire began burning east to north-easterly in the direction of Old Punyelroo Road and Murraylands Road with conditions “continually changing”.
“Prepare to leave,” CFS said in an earlier statement.
“Take action now as this bushfire may threaten your safety.
“Check that the path is clear and go to a safer place.”
21 trucks and seven aircraft were seen patrolling the 50 hectare area, as well as heavy machinery and water bombers.
