An alleged commercial drug dealer found with hundreds of MDMA tablets in a drug raid will be allowed to travel overseas for a holiday.
But Oscar Jack Suursaar, 22, has to hand over $5000 as assurance to the court before he jets off later this month.
Andrew Graham, for Mr Suursaar, told the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday his client’s family holiday to Vanuatu was booked prior to his arrest.
Detectives from Serious & Organised Crime branch went to an address in Cherry Gardens on September 5, following an investigation into MDMA, also known as ecstasy.
Police allegedly found a manual pill press machine, several punches/dies, binding agents, various items used in the tableting of ecstasy, 50 grams of MDMA crystals and over 300 pressed ecstasy tablets.
Mr Suursaar, of Cherry Gardens, is charged with commercial drug trafficking.
If found guilty, basic offences involving commercial quantities of drugs attract a maximum fine of $200,000 and/or 25 years imprisonment.
At the time, officer in charge of serious and organised crime branch, Detective superintendent Billy Thompson said speaking of police operations generally that backyard operators were not chemists and their activity placed users at extreme risk.
“This seizure demonstrates that detectives from Serious & Organised Crime Branch will continue to pursue those responsible for trafficking harmful drugs,” he said.
In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday, a prosecutor said they did not oppose Mr Suursaar’s travel from January 30 to February 6, with certain conditions imposed.
Magistrate Lynette Duncan granted the overseas travel, with conditions Mr Suursaar lodge a $5000 cash surety with the court and report to a police station upon his return.
The court heard Mr Suursaar’s father – who will be travelling with him – would also act as a guarantor.
The charge was adjourned until April.
