A man has pleaded not guilty to a gang rape after DNA allegedly linked him to the crime over 30 years later.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with the historic sex offence after his DNA allegedly matched to a used condom left at the scene.
Andrew Moffa, for the man, asked the court in December to dismiss his client's charge after prosecution sought a further adjournment for charge determination.
“It’s not a complicated matter, they should have had everything ready to go today and they haven’t,” he said at the time.
A prosecutor told the court in December the man was arrested on the historic charge after his DNA matched with a used condom from the alleged rape on February 29, 1992 at Teringie.
“The victim – who was subject to a gang rape – says two of the offenders used condoms, raped her and discarded them,” the prosecutor said.
A prosecutor told the court it was a “strong case” against the man.
The man pleaded not guilty to rape in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday through his counsel.
Magistrate Simon Smart committed him to the District Court for arraignment in June.
