Huge, 2kg mulga snake found in 4WD engine bay after Murray Mallee trip

Imagine setting off home after a camping trip in the Murray Mallee – but first, you have to deal with the massive 2kg, venomous snake in your car …

‘F*** me’: Giant mulga snake caught in Renmark

An expletive-laden video of a massive snake being pulled from the engine bay of the 4WD of a couple camping in the Murray Mallee is going viral.

The couple were camping in the area when they saw the giant snake slither up into their car.

Believing it to be a python because of the size, they called Snake Catchers Adelaide – who ended up pulling a 2kg mulga snake out from under the engine.

The mulga – also known as the king brown snake – is the largest venomous snake in Australia.

The video has had thousands of views after just a few hours, partly because of snake catcher Max Tibby’s hilarious, honest response to the disgruntled reptile.

“F**kin’ hell … look at the size of this thing,” Max can be heard saying on the video.

“F**k me … holy Jesus Christ. Sorry. It’s the biggest one I’ve ever seen. What the f**k … sorry, I keep swearing.

“I am genuinly f**kin’ nervous about this. What the f**k. Sorry about that.”

Mulga snakes are generally about 2m-2.5m long, but the longest on record is about 3.3m.

Snake Catchers Adelaide’s post on Facebook said Max had been working out in the Riverland when he got the called.

“The couple had been camping in the mallee and had seen a snake go up into their car.

“They’d assumed it was a python given the size, but turned out to be a beast of a mallee form mulga.

“Luckily we’re able to get it right back out to exactly where it came from, with no injury from its ride in the engine bay!

“These snakes can be surprisingly rare across a lot of their range, especially as you get close to the agricultural areas around the Murray River, so it’s awesome to see a big individual like this kicking around.”
