A man will face court after a pedestrian was run down at Woodville Gardens on Sunday.

It will be alleged emergency services were called to First Ave, near the Arndale Shopping Centre, about 9.50am after reports a 62-year-old man from Woodville Gardens had been hit.

The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 60-year-old man, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he had a blood sample taken.

The Strathalbyn man has since been reported for aggravated driving without due care and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Witnesses at the scene on Sunday told The Advertiser the man was struck by a Ford Ranger as the driver was exiting an Ampol service station on the street.

Nearby resident Mick – who did not wish to share his last name – said people usually took a shortcut across First Ave. He said he heard a loud bang before rushing to help the injured man.

“The driver was out of his car going up to the servo yelling ‘ambulance’ so I ran over and rang the ambulance,” he said.

“I had the emergency people on the phone and they were giving me directions on CPR.”

Mick said he and the driver of the Ford Ranger provided first aid before paramedics took over.

He said the pedestrian had a laceration to the front and back of his head.

“I’m feeling a bit shaken up, I’m going to go clear my head,” he said.

Adrian Leo, 41, a resident in a block of flats on First Ave, said he didn’t witness the incident but regularly sees the man who was hit.

“He always walks past me down this street and past me and Arndale and I say hello to him,” he said.

“He comes in and out of there (nearby apartments).

“I can’t really express it, I just feel really sad for him and his family.”
